LGSC Stands in Solidarity with the Black Community

June 2, 2020

Black members of the Cornell and Ithaca community, we recognize your grief, trauma, and the tremendous effort that is required of you to exist. We are in full solidarity with you. We see you, stand united with you, and are here for you. Below are some ways for our community to stand in solidarity with the Black community:

1. Join a peaceful protest tomorrow: Wednesday, June 3rd at 12 PM starting at Ho Plaza to the Ithaca Police Department.

This is a call for justice on the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and every single Black person who lost their lives to the senseless violence in our country. Influential leaders will speak at this event. We will make our voices heard. We will be in Ho Plaza with sign making materials and bandannas at 11:30 AM.

2. Educate ourselves and others– start difficult conversations about anti-blackness

3. Donate money, time, and supplies to bail funds, legal help, and organizations that work to help Black people

4. AmplifyMelanatedVoices

  • share content posted by Black creators
  • buy/leave reviews/refer black-owned businesses

5. Vote–Text–Sign:

These can cover a subject, course, or topic; customize the research resources you would like your students to use for your course or assignment; and support your students’ remote learning experience. These guides can also be integrated into Canvas. Your library liaison will be happy to work with you to create a guide designed specifically for you!
